Most homozygotes survive to the early pupal stage, but only approximately 10% of homozygotes eclose. Most of the flies are trapped in the pupal case and those that do eclose show severe defects in locomotion. Homozygous third instar larvae show severe defects in locomotion. The number of synaptic boutons normalised to the muscle area is increased by approximately 35% at the third larval instar neuromuscular junction.
